DUMBARTON beat local neighbours Clydebank 2-1 in the annual pre-season friendly challenge match at the newly renamed Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium in front of a 400 crowd.

Stevie Aitken's men were too good for their Stagecoach West of Scotland Super League premier division opponents, but the junior side impressed throughout with their skill, fitness and energy.

They took the lead in just three minutes when new signing Mark Burbidge broke away and beat home keeper Mark Brown, but the lead did not last long.

Centre half Gregor Buchanan levelled the score for Sons with a glancing header from a Willie Gibson corner, and a few minutes later Garry Fleming broke through and beat the keeper from close range to put his side in front.

The home side were in command for the rest of the game, but failed to add to their total despite creating several chances.

The picture shows young Dumbarton striker Donald McCallum displaying confidence and good close control when challenged by defenders.
