DUMBARTON were never at the races when fourth placed Livingston arrived at the Bet Butler Stadium on Grand National Day.

A crowd of 704 saw the home side have a real off day, perhaps feeling the pace after a series of midweek games, and Sons rarely troubled a young Livi side which controlled the game with short passes at pace.

Teenager Kyle Lander, making his debut for the visitors, opened the scoring after half an hour, and in the second period Paul Watson and Danny Mullen added further goals.

Sons did have chances. Jim Lister shot at the keeper when it seemed easier to score, Alan Lithgow headed against the bar, and Mark Gilhaney headed just over the bar. But it was just one of those days in front of goal, and the visitors fully deserved the three points.
